Nationalism over resolving greenhouse gas fallout is the gravest threat this globe faces

Is World War II , the war created by excessive national selfishness , really over ?

I ask if so, why then do nations still delude themselves that they have to the sole sovereign right to burn hydrocarbons within their own borders as they see fit ?

Didn't we learn quickly after WWII that nationally created atomic testing fallout and germ warfare experimenting fallout simply refused to stay put ?

Can we expect nationally-produced greenhouse gas fallout to be anymore cooperative ?

Nations should no longer expect to be able to simply dictate terms to individuals below them and to the globe above them , not if any of the three hope to survive.

Nationalism gravest threat to globe

I argue that bog ordinary nationalism - ardently espoused by billions of us - not the arcane "global warming conspiracies" espoused ardently by mere millions of us - is the biggest single threat this world faces.

Even surpassing the threat of global warming itself.

The recently concluded 2014 Olympics demonstrates the willingness of most of us to cheer like fools for someone we don't know (because wrapped in the right national colours) and to jeer to the rafters other people we don't know (because draped in the wrong national colours).

Today no nation will make the first move on seriously reducing hydrocarbon burning , being convinced that doing so will give other nations a leg up.

Currently it appears we will never be re-united in one-ness as fellow humans, not until we all die in this self-induced funeral climate pyre.

Ironically then , nineteenth century nationalism seems ready to be the death knell of the twentieth first century ....
